Hyper realistic ‘illusion’ cakes
When is a cake not a cake? When it doesn’t look like one. Except it IS a cake! The trend for these hyper-real, so-called ‘illusion’ cakes, shows no sign of stopping. Almost anything is possible (within reason) so you can let your imagination go wild and let me worry about the practicalities.
Customers can hardly believe their eyes when they see these realistic creations. Give your guests something to really talk about when you present something that nobody can believe is cake!
pineapple cake
This hyper-real illusion cake is made from coconut flavour sponge with a pineapple flavour buttercream filling. Painstakingly decorated to resemble a real pineapple, it had many fooled on first look! Fully edible including the realistic leaves and spiky pineapple texture, finished off with edible sand.
MOËT champagne bottle
This illusion cake not only looked like an actual size Moët Pink Champagne bottle, but also tasted like one too! The pink-champagne flavoured sponge was sandwiched with vanilla flavour Italian meringue buttercream. The edible label was was personalised with a vintage year and the birthday girl’s country of birth.
The bottle was airbrushed to give the bottle its colour, and finished with gold paint and an edible sheen.

This lemon-flavoured Pinot Grigio-style bottle for wine-loving Lyndsay featured her own personalised label designed especially for her and included Merseyside as the origin, as well as the Liverpool skyline to honour her Liverpudlian roots.
Hand modelled chocolate ‘grapes’ and an iced wooden texture completes the scene.
